Christmas Engagement Details (and the weekend at Moms)
As I’ve written, Greg and I spent the weekend at my Mom’s. We drove down on Saturday and left Sunday night. It was a pretty long weekend! Both Greg and I were/are exhausted from Amelia waking up between 5:30 – 6:00am all week or we’re in some time warp where we’re slowly going back in time instead of moving forward… either way, Saturday night felt like an eternity.
Greg and I left for Mom’s around 1:30pm on Saturday. We stopped at Taco Bell on the way out (since neither of us had eaten anything prior). I ordered a stuffed burrito and was feeling goofy when I saw how big it was and Greg took pictures of me and the burrito… we’re so silly.

The drive down to Moms was uneventful; there was a little traffic in Bowie , but other than that it was easy driving. Once we made it to La Plata , I called Mom to see if she needed anything since we were going to stop at Targetfor a few things (gifts for Olivia). While in Target, Greg saw an inappropriate Snowman decoration:

An hour later we were back on the road (with at least another 30-40 minutes to drive). We arrived at Moms around 4pm, I think. We unloaded the car and hung out in the living room for the evening. Around 6, Mom and Van had dinner (Greg and I were still full from our Taco Bell lunch) and then Mom, Greg and I talked about finishing up the last gifts to wrap. I thought Mom and Greg were going to start as I headed off to the bathroom, but something else occurred (as I later learned); Greg asked for my Mom’s permission to marry me! While I was in the bathroom, Greg showed her the ring (I have no idea how Mom held in her excitement) and the concocted a plan to get me out of the house so Greg could wrap the ‘gifts’ up. I wasn’t in the bathroom for more than 3-4 minutes!! So, that is when Mom and I went outside for a nice walk in the woods for about 45 minutes. Clever little monkeys! Here’s the best picture I took during the walk in the woods with Mom:

On Sunday, Amelia was up at 5:30am though fell back asleep in bed with Greg and me and then Greg put her back in her bed while we slept for the rest of the morning. Around 7am, Mom got Amelia and they ate breakfast together (eggs and toast) while Greg and I slept until 8am. After breakfast (well, everyone ate breakfast but me – I just wasn’t all that hungry yesterday) we decided Amelia could open her gifts while the rest of us wait until Sean and the rest of the family arrived. Amelia received a lot of great things! Three new outfits (all in 12 months size), new toys, socks, and the one thing she seems to love the most – a puzzle! It’s a puzzle that has the handles on it so she can pull out the pieces and then place them back in. And, to my amazement she actually tries to put them back in!

Around 9am, Van left to do some last minute shopping. Greg and I played with Amelia and watched some Austin Powers on TNT (during Amelia’s nap). Just before noon my brother arrives and we chit chat, catch-up on events and all that jazz. We call Van to see where he is because we’re ready to open presents! Van doesn’t arrive until 2pm. It was so hard to resist the huge pile of presents all over the house! Yes, I will admit that I would pick up a present with mine or Greg’s name on it and do the little box shake. Nothing wrong with that!!

Once we were all together we began opening presents! We had Christmas music playing in the background and we’re all sitting next to each other talking and tearing paper off our gifts.
Christmas was great this year, for many reasons. Not only did everyone enjoy their gifts, but it was the first Christmas for Amelia and how Greg made this Christmas so special and memorable. Did I mention the gifts? Oh my goodness did we all receive some amazing gifts! Sean received a computer bag for his laptop, a huge poster, a martini set from Greg and me, and a whole bunch of other items that I can’t remember right not. Mom received a CD (the Beatles White Album from Greg and me), outdoor solar lights for her garden, a nice table and matching lamp (from Sean), spices (from Greg and me), a new cell phone and digital camera(last two from Van). Van received a book from Greg and I, a Dremmel tool set from Sean and I don’t remember what my Mom got him. Greg received (and this is includes all the gifts from me and my family) a pair of Timberland boots, the Skull candy headphones, the score from the Transformers movie, a digital photo key chain, a sports calendar, XM radio set, assorted gift cards, a XM radio boom box, and a few odds and ends (drinking glasses from Sean). I received, a laptop, a wireless mouse for the laptop, a laptop bag (all with coordinating colors), socks and underwear (family tradition), Mommy calendar (one that sticks to the fridge) earrings, a huge poster, DS game, photo/video editing software (from Pat), photo printer (more of a joint gift for Greg and me), a few cook books and accessories, and other items I can’t think of – oh wait – An Engagement Ring!!!

By the time we were done opening all the presents it was 3:30! We had developed an appetite and started to talk about dinner. We were anticipating more guests but were unsuccessful in getting a hold of our guests (Cousin April and her family were moving over the weekend). So, we started dinner preparations. My Mom makes this amazing completely homemade lasagna (literally, the whole thing is homemade except for the cheese, pasta, and meat), sauce included! And, she tops the lasagna with a layer of pepperoni and bakes it in the oven until the pepperonis are nice and crispy. I love my Mom’s lasagna!!

It was nice to have a full sit down dinner with just my family. Amelia ate some of the lasagna but I don’t think she liked it very much. After dinner, we got a hold of my Cousin April and learned she was going to be at least an hour or more and Greg and I were trying to leave early because we had a lot to do at home. But, I wanted to see Cousin April and Olivia and to share the exciting news with her, so we waited. Finally, around 5:30, Cousin April and her family arrives. Amelia and Olivia played together (slightly), they more or less stared at each other. I showed April my engagement ring and we giggled like little school girls with excitement then we opened the presents we had for each other and our girls. Not too long afterwards, Greg and I left and we were home by 8:45.
