Life in the slow lane

Nothing going on.

My life is currently set at: ’granny mode’ -  cruise control in the slow lane.

Boring.

I can’t think of anything to write about.

A co-worker, the father of Kamel, was fired due to excessive absenteeism this week. This co-worker and I started the job together back in Sept 2006 and now I’m the only one left from that class. A lot of us miss this co-worker; he was so fun to work with. Now, we are down a man in the marketing/retention team and I’m starting to feel the pressure of the work. It hasn’t been that bad, except for this past Monday, but on a good note my commission check is starting to look pretty good again!

Last night I watched Hairspray (the 2007 creation). I am so glad I didn’t buy the DVD (considered buying it a few times); the movie was disappointing. My opinion may have something to due with my short attention span, especially with musicals, but even still - it was bad. And, John Travolta’s attempt at the Baltimore accent was nauseating! My stomach quivered with the threat of tossing its cookies each time John Travolta said ”hon“. Moving on… I’ve seen the 1988 version of Hairspray many times (not because I like it that much but because it’s a good movie to watch when it’s on TV and there isn’t anything else on). The two versions are completely different; I believe the 2007 version is to be more like the Broadway musical rather than just a ‘retouched’ recreation (something along the lines of the ‘digitalized remake’ of Star Wars). I’ve never seen Hairspray on Broadway so I’m not certain. But, anyway, while watching the 2007 version last night I began thinking about segregation and all things related. Personally, I don’t think I could live in that era and support segregation. I never understood why black people were treated as if they were a contagious disease. That thought was provoked by a scene in the movie where it was “negro day” on the Corney Collins Show and there was a roped line down the middle of the dancing floor and the dancers were not to cross the line.

I’d write more about my thoughts but I’m feeling lazy and want to watch Superbad (gotta love Netflix), so my mind isn’t focusing on ’stuff’.

Oh, and a few weeks ago, work must have caught up with my trickyness because they blocked all blog sites (livejournal, blogger, typepad, wordpress, etc) so I can’t write from work anymore, much less read any blogs. Another reason why I love my cellphone oh so much!

Granny-mode, oh what I would give for a senior citizen moment…Just. Once. And I hated Hairspray. :(
